DDS Programs Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Advancing Disability Inclusion through Global Commitments

The Disabled Development Society (DDS) actively contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by designing and implementing inclusive, rights-based programs for persons with disabilities in Bangladesh. DDS recognizes that people with disabilities must be at the center of development to ensure no one is left behind. Our work intersects with multiple SDGs through targeted action, advocacy, and community-based development.

SDG 1 – No Poverty

DDS organizes income-generating activities, vocational training, and self-help group formations for persons with disabilities to reduce poverty and dependency. Programs like goat rearing, small business training, and micro-enterprise support help beneficiaries achieve financial independence.

SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being

DDS conducts health camps, primary healthcare support, assistive device distribution, and awareness programs on hygiene, nutrition, and reproductive health—particularly for women and children with disabilities.

SDG 4 – Quality Education

Through inclusive education initiatives, literacy programs, and support for children with multiple disabilities, DDS helps ensure access to formal and non-formal education. Educational materials, Braille services, and special education for blind children are part of this effort.

SDG 5 – Gender Equality

DDS runs women empowerment programs, vocational training for women with disabilities, and violence prevention campaigns. These initiatives promote leadership and economic opportunities for women, especially in rural areas.

SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth

Skill-building workshops and entrepreneurship training are at the core of DDS’s effort to create employment opportunities for people with disabilities. Through advocacy, DDS also encourages employers to embrace inclusive hiring.

SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities

DDS advocates for disability rights, anti-discrimination laws, and inclusive policies, supporting the implementation of the Persons with Disabilities Rights and Protection Act, 2013. Programs focus on social inclusion and equal opportunity for all.

SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities

Through community awareness, infrastructure advocacy, and local stakeholder engagement, DDS promotes barrier-free environments and inclusive public services to ensure cities are accessible and safe for all.

SDG 13 – Climate Action

DDS integrates climate change adaptation into its rural programs—like tree plantation, risk reduction training, and disaster preparedness—ensuring disabled people are included in climate resilience planning.
